We were sitting at the mouth of a river in Salmon Bay, British Columbia where the salmon were bubbling and getting ready to start their run. Eagles were in the pines and flying about here and there.
I wondered what the eagles thought of us: 5 photographers in a zodiak all pointing different directions trying to capture the noble eagle image, laughing wildly and knowing that composition was out the window. This one is missing the wing, but I think you can see that eagles do have lips.
I missed the shot because I am new at shooting moving things while I am moving – but that doesn’t mean the other photographers in the boat did. They had lots of great shots of eagles and the other wildlife we saw. I like this shot for its purity of heart – because when I look at it, I see the blue sky and remember laughing and feeling very happy, in very good company. It was our last night on the Maple Leaf and it was sublime.
