The Mandalay as seen from the Yankee Clipper

Smithsonian Journeys Cover

Racing tall ships. They were winning. I took this photo with a Kodak point and shoot. We had the good fortune to be aboard the Yankee Clipper, of the now defunct Barefoot Windjammer fleet. We were traveling with and racing her sister ship, the Mandalay off the coast of St. Vincent. Windjammer passengers love the sea, and we were just lucky to travel on these gems before they were taken out of service.

I submitted this to a Smithsonian Photo contest. I didn’t win the big prize, but they did use my photo for their travel catalogue. So I’m published. I’ll have to take a picture of the cover and post that too.
